Dr. Cheryl Morris has over 15 years of comparative animal nutrition experience.  She obtained her B.S. in Human Nutrition from the University of New Mexico, her M.S. in Animal Science (Ruminant Nutrition) from Iowa State University and her Ph.D in Nutritional Sciences (Canine Nutrition) from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

She has overseen the nutrition of the animals managed at one of the Nation's largest zoological institutions since 2005.  In 2012, she joined the faculty of Animal Science at Iowa State University, while maintaining an Associate Scientist position with the Omaha Zoo.  Her research focus is specialized in carnivore nutrition, particularly raw diet formulations for domestic and exotic carnivores. Cheryl's nutrition research background not only includes carnivores, but domestic livestock, exotic ruminants, vampire bats, insects, amphibians, birds, and reptiles.

Dr. Morris has competed in the sport of dog agility with her Toy Fox Terriers, border collies and an All American, since 2006. In 2013 she and her rescue border collie, Karma won the AKC 16 Inch National Agility Championship and returned to the NAC in 2015 where they won Round 1, finished 3rd cumulative after 3 rounds and placed 3rd in the finals. Her diverse background with multiple species along with her understanding of animal competition, gives her the unique ability to incorporate science, natural history, behavior, and practicality into optimal animal diets and enrichment plans.

Dr. Morris has a deep understanding of gut anatomy and physiology and specializes in clinical diet formulations related to gastrointestinal imbalance including IBD and PLE.
